Homage to Old Growth
by: Kerry Marshall

'Sinker' Redwood has a very interesting story. When the Mendocino north coast first started harvesting the Old Growth Redwood forest, back in the 1880's, the only way they could move these logs to the mills was to float them down the many small river that drained out to the ocean. As these logs were traveling down the rivers many became stuck on the bottom of the river to sit there until in recent years they have been reclaimed from the river. The milled wood definitely reflects the time spent under water by the remarkable variety of striations of color found within the wood.
