Pillar of Drawers
by: Taimi Barty

This piece is intended to be a room divider whereby the drawers are accessible from both directions. I was striving for an airy, light feel which is why the piece does not have solid sides, front or back. When any of the nine drawers are pulled out, the negative space is visible, interacts with the rest of the piece and creates visually interesting shapes. The title is in part a reference and dedication to my teacher and mentor, James Krenov, who in his last year of teaching prior to retirement spoke of "Coming full circle" and who lent me many of his tools to make this piece. The woods are Western Maple, finished with shellac, Port Orford Cedar, and Narra, finished with oil.
