Big River Door Series
by: Kerry Marshall

These doors are made from reclaimed Old Growth Redwood recovered from Big River on the north coast of California. When the redwood forest was first harvested, back in the 1880's, the only way they could move the logs was to float them down the river to the Mill at the ocean's edge. As the logs traveled down the river many became stuck on the bottom to sit there until in recent years they have been reclaimed.
The milled wood definitely reflects the time spent under water by the remarkable variety of striations of color found within the wood. The doors and cabinetry I have made seek to showcase this remarkable wood and the river-scape quality of the grain.
